Vettriano said of Queen of the Waltzer "These paintings are from my memories of the fairground coming to town – the characters who used to run the rides, the tough guys with their tattoos and the hard kind of woman who hung around them."

The original oil on canvas painting of Queen of the Waltzer, measuring 24 x 20 inches, was prominently featured in Vettriano's Lovers & Other Strangers exhibition in 2000 and his Retrospective exhibition in 2013.
