The original painting, created in 1991, has a remarkable history. Sold in 1998 for £32,000, it went on to achieve international attention at a 2006 auction at Hopetoun House near Edinburgh, where it sold to a UK collector of Scottish art for £744,800 — setting a new record for a Scottish artist at the time.
